Some 12 climbers are aiming to raise £40,000 for Focus Ireland and get an entry in the Guinness Book of Records on July 4th by conquering five of the highest peaks in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.

The Irish Permanent Five Peaks Challenge will include representatives from media, Guinness Ireland, BUPA Ireland and AA Roadwatch.

The mountains to be conquered are Carrauntoohil, Co Kerry, Slieve Donard, Co Down, Mount Snowden, Wales, Scafell Pike, Cumbria, and Ben Nevis in the Scottish highlands. The attempt is expected to take about 16 hours and is being organised by the veteran climber Mr John Morrison.
