French police arrest two more ETA suspects

Police in southern France have arrested two Basque militants suspected of planning attacks in Spain.

Police in southern France have arrested two Basque militants suspected of planning attacks in Spain.

Interior minister Angel Acebes said the suspects were arrested yesterday in Bagneres-de-Luchon near Toulouse, and had formed a roving commando unit ready to hit targets in Spain's Basque province of Guipuzcoa. He said the suspects were still being identified.

On Monday, French police near Bordeaux arrested two Basques that Spain called the top leaders of the armed separatist group Eta's commando units. It called that raid a major success in its battle against Eta.

The two arrested yesterday were carrying false identity papers, guns and other material that were being examined by the French police, Mr Acebes said. Police also found documents that indicated the unit's targets, he said.
