Free driving licence for over-70s

People over 70 will be able to renew their driving licence free of charge from February 1st next year

People over 70 will be able to renew their driving licence free of charge from February 1st next year. The Minister of State for the Environment and Local Government, Mr Bobby Molloy, made the announcement yesterday.

He said there was an imbalance in the current fee structure which prevented anyone over 60 from obtaining a 10-year licence. It meant they had to pay a higher yearly charge than the £2 a year which now applies in the case of a 10-year licence.
