Memphis - A man began shooting at police and firefighters responding to a house fire in an incident in Memphis, Tennessee, yesterday that left four dead and two wounded.
The incident began after police and firefighters responded to a call about domestic violence and a report of a fire. They found the house ablaze. A man then emerged firing a "long gun," authorities said.
A sheriff's deputy and a firefighter were fatally shot. Another firefighter was also wounded and died later at a hospital. The gunman was shot by another officer after refusing to put down his weapon, police said.
Authorities later found the body of a woman inside the charred home. She had also been shot. Police said the gunman was in critical condition. A female bystander suffered a head wound from shots fired from the house, but her wounds were not considered life threatening, police said.
