Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's former police chief was indicted yesterday for hitting ex-finance minister Mr Anwar Ibrahim while in custody.

Mr Abdul Rahim Noor, who quit his job in January and admitted in February to hitting Mr Anwar, was charged with attempting to cause grievous hurt to the former deputy prime minister. The September beating of Mr Anwar, who was sentenced last week to six years' jail for corruption, triggered international outrage.
