The former minister for justice, Mrs Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, sustained injuries when her car was involved in a two-car crash near Ballinasloe, Co Galway, on the main Dublin to Galway road late on Wednesday.

Both she and the man driving the other car were taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, before she was transferred to Merlin Park Hospital in Galway yesterday.

The driver of the other car was discharged from Portiuncula yesterday. Ms Geoghegan-Quinn sustained chest and rib fractures, a broken finger and an injury to the spine.
