Madrid - A former senior member of the Basque separatist group ETA was released from jail yesterday after Spain's Supreme Court ruled he had already served his sentence in France. Mr Jose Antonio Urrutikoetxea, known by his nickname, Josu Ternera, spent 10 years in a French prison before being handed over to Spain in 1996.
The group ended a 14-month ceasefire on December 3rd and police have since thwarted two attempted bomb attacks.
