The former mayor of Belfast, Mr David Alderdice, has been awarded an OBE in Queen Elizabeth's Birthday Honours List.
In all, 62 people from Northern Ireland were honoured for their services to the community, including the coach of the Ulster rugby team, Mr Harold Williams, who was awarded an MBE.
Mr Alderdice, a member of the Alliance party, held the office of mayor last year. He is the brother of former leader of the Alliance party Lord Alderdice, who is currently the presiding officer of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
