The "foodie Oscars" were announced last week and our own John McKenna scooped one of the annual Glenfiddich Awards as best regional food writer of the year. The winners were announced at a "more funky than formal" gathering at the Great Eastern Hotel in London. This is the fourth Glenfiddich Award to be bestowed on the Irish Times writer and author, along with his wife Sally McKenna, of The Bridgestone Food Guide series. Other celebrated food writers who have received Glenfiddich awards in the past include Jancis Robinson, Simon Hopkinson and Nigel Slater. Next stop Hollywood, is it? "Holywood, Co Down, maybe," he says.
