An earthquake measuring five points on the open-ended Richter scale occurred under the sea of the Mediterranean island of Crete this afternoon.
There were no reports of any casualties or damage from the quake, which occurred at 16.43 Irish time and was centred on a point northeast of the Greek island.
However the quake was shook buildings in the northeastern Cretan port of Ay Nikolaos and in the surrounding region of Lasithi, scientists at the Athens Observatory said.
