London - Five Britons detained in Yemen were yesterday formally charged with being members of an "armed gang" for the "intention of committing murders" in the country, their lawyer, Mr Badr Basunaid, said.
Mr Basunaid said he attended a short hearing at the Central Security Headquarters in Aden at which the men, who have been held since their arrest three weeks ago, were charged.
Mr Mohsin Ghalain (18) from London; Mr Shahid Butt (33), Mr Malik Nassar Harhra (26) and Mr Samad Ahmed (21), all from Birmingham, stood handcuffed and were not allowed to speak to their lawyer. Mr Ghulam Hussein (25) from Luton was charged later along with a sixth man, Mr Basunaid said.
