THE report into the death of the Mayo schoolgirl, Kelly Fitzgerald, is to be publicly debated by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Children and Families after Easter the committee, which met in private yesterday, agreed without a vote to discuss the report when it meets again on April 17th.
Committee members will receive the report before the meeting. Yesterday they agreed there was no need to seek legal advice on whether to publicly examine the findings.
The report follows an inquiry by a committee appointed by the Western Health Board and chaired by Mr Owen Keenan, chief executive of Barnardos. The board has said it will not publish the report for legal reasons.
