Mr Delaney was one of a group of five men who went to the bar armed with baseball bats to confront a rival faction after an early incident in Quirkie’s bar in Ballyphehane.

Detectives believe that there were up to 20 members of a rival faction drinking in the lounge of the Manhattan when they were confronted by the other grouping which included Mr Delaney.

They believe that Mr Delaney was disarmed and attacked with the baseball bat and struck across the forehead while he was also stabbed a number of times during the fracas.

They believe that Mr Delaney was retreating to a waiting car when he was stabbed and was driven to a nearby house.

However, he collapsed soon afterwards and was rushed by family members to Cork University Hospital where he died a short time later from his injuries.
