Three Indian soldiers and three suspected Islamic militants have been killed in two separate gunbattles in Kashmir.
Suspected guerrillas ambushed a group of Indian soldiers who had set out to raid their hide-out.
The incident happened in Sugam, a village in the Kupwara district.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Mukhtiar Singh said two soldiers and two suspected insurgents were killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

Earlier a soldier and a suspected militant were killed during a search by security forces of the town of Punch, police said.
