There is "no truth" in a claim by Fine Gael that some pensioners will not receive the traditional Christmas bonus payment, according to the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, Mr Ahern.

Fine Gael's spokesman on social and community affairs, Mr Brian Hayes, said yesterday more than 3,600 people in receipt of a British pension would not receive the Christmas bonus this year. He accused the Government of discrimination.

Mr Ahern said there would be a full bonus for all those on a non-contributory pension as usual this year, subject to a minimum payment of £20.
