THE funerals take place in Navan this morning of Mr Frank Rogers (42) and his three year old son, Cillian, whose bodies were found in the family car on Saturday. Gardai say it appears Mr Rogers' death was self inflicted.
Mr Rogers' wife, who is pregnant, discovered the bodies at 9.15 on Saturday morning outside their home at Balreask Old. A hose attached to the exhaust pipe of the car led into the interior of the vehicle.
Kentstown National School, where Mr Rogers was principal, will be closed today as a mark of respect. He was held in high regard by colleagues, who say he had strengthened relations between parents and staff at the school.
Mr Maurice Kearney, the Co Meath representative, on the INTO executive committee, commented: "There is great sympathy and consideration for both the dead and those who have to survive what happened. I am in a state of shock and at a loss to understand it ... none of us can comprehend the child being involved as well."
Mr Rogers was from a well known Navan family. His first wife died of cancer. He had his only child from his second marriage with him when he died.
The funeral Mass takes place in St Mary's Catholic Church, Navan, at 11 a.m.
