Family makes appeal over missing NI woman

The family of murdered Co Down shop assistant Lisa Dorrian today appealed to people to stop shielding her killers.

The family of murdered Co Down shop assistant Lisa Dorrian today appealed to people to stop shielding her killers.

As they prepared for another reminder of their loss, Lisa's family pleaded for the girlfriends or wives of those involved in her disappearance and death to help end their torment. Tomorrow would have been her 27th birthday.

But Lisa's fate since she vanished from a party on a wintry and isolated caravan site on the Co Down coast in February 2005 has never been resolved.

It has developed into a major crime mystery involving loyalist paramilitaries, drugs and a cruel wall of silence.

Lisa's sister Joanne, who has campaigned tirelessly for information and clues, insisted the family would eventually discover where her body is hidden. "We will get to the bottom of this," she vowed.

"I just wish people would find it in their hearts to help us. Particularly women. "There must be women around these men who have their suspicions. They should think what these men are capable of."

Despite a £10,000 reward and a website where confidential information can be posted a breakthrough has yet to emerge.

Huge billboards have also been erected across Belfast and north Down appealing for help. Several men have been questioned and released without charge, even though the identities of those Lisa was last seen with are known.

Police believe her body may have been moved months after she was killed and dumped at sea, lessening the chances of bringing those responsible to justice.
