A Facebook campaign to stop the downgrading of the helicopter rescue service in the southeast has reached almost 11,000 members, writes Ciaran Murphy.
The Department of Transport last week confirmed the 24-hour rescue helicopter based at Waterford Airport would operate during daylight hours only.
On the Facebook page, which had 10,813 members last night, Alan Dorgan said: “I was out on a hillwalk yesterday and if it wasn’t for this helicopter one of the lads with us could have been in serious trouble.”
Senator Paudie Coffey said: “I am meeting with the southeast sea-air rescue crew at Waterford Airport today – I will pass on the massive support of you all to them.”
