Former England international Mark Wright has been charged with harassment, it was disclosed today.

Former England international Mark Wright has been charged with harassment, it was disclosed today.

Wright, who played for England in the 1990 World Cup finals, will appear before magistrates later this week charged with harassment with violence.

It is believed the charge relates to Wright's estranged wife Sarah, who still lives in the couple's marital home in Willaston, Cheshire.

Wright, who played for Liverpool during the 1990s and now manages non-league Chester, will appear before Chester magistrates on Friday.

Stephen Vaughan, chairman and owner of Chester, today gave his backing to Wright.

He said: "Mark has done a fantastic job at the club since he took over.

"He has the full support and backing of all the staff and we are confident that his name will be cleared."

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "A 38-year-old man has been charged with one offence of harassment with violence."
