The European Commission said it had extended until November 17th its review of a planned merger of French energy giants Suez and Gaz de France.
"The European Commission can confirm that it has received proposals for remedies from Suez and Gaz de France late on September 20th in relation to the merger bid currently under investigation by the commission," the EU executive said today.
"In view of the receipt of remedies, the deadline for the commission's decision is extended by 15 working days from October 25th to November 17th, 2006."
Gaz de France and Suez said earlier that they had told the commission their remedies included the creation of a new competitor in Belgium and France that would then be sold to a third party.
