A 17-year-old convicted murderer who was mistakenly released after a court appearance earlier this month has handed himself in to police in Scotland.

James McCormick, from Glasgow, is understood to have walked into Polmont Young Offenders' Institution near Falkirk.

The teenager is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Lanarkshire, on Monday.

McCormick's disappearance took place days after a private security company, Reliance, took over a contract to escort prisoners in custody to and from court.
