M50 northbound reopens following multi-vehicle rush hour pile-up

No injuries yet reported in incident but motorists experiencing severe tail-backs

Gardaí have said the M50 northbound has now reopened to traffic following a multi-vehicle collision at the height of rush hour.

An initial crash occurred near Junction 6 at Blanchardstown at about 5.30pm as traffic was at its peak level. Both lanes of the motorway were shut down as emergency services scrambled to the scene causing what was described as “huge delays”.

It is not known yet if there were any injuries although it is believed the fire brigade had to cut the roof off one of the vehicles.

Both lanes have now reopened on the motorway which it is hoped will begin to alleviate tail-backs.
