Iarnród Éireann and rail unions to resume talks

Talks between Iarnród Éireann and unions representing train drivers will resume at the Workplace Relations Commission tomorrow, in an effort to avert a planned train strike on Friday.

Members of Siptu and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) have threatened to disrupt train services across the country on Friday morning with work stoppages between 6am until 9am.

The stoppages will affect all Dart, commuter and intercity services.

The talks will centre on resolving the dispute over payments for past productivity measures.

Following the announcement of new talks, NBRU general secretary Dermot O’Leary said: “We have accepted the invitation on the basis that the full compliment of issues associated with the productivity agenda, inclusive of previous contributions of train drivers, will be addressed.

“There is an expectation from our members that their issues will be given the same consideration as those of the company.”

Minister for Transport Paschal Donohue said earlier that he would not intervene in the industrial dispute between management and unions at Iarnród Éireann.

A second strike is also set to take place on Friday, November 6th.
