Eleven workers died and at least 26 were injured when fire broke out at a paint factory in the eastern province of Chonburi.

Eleven workers died and at least 26 were injured when fire broke out at a paint factory in the eastern province of Chonburi.

The fire gutted three buildings at the GS Thailand paint factory in Panthong district, 70 kilometres southeast of the capital Bangkok, as some 40 workers were working inside.

"The death toll now stands at 11 with injuries still at 26," Panthong police commander Colonel Charnchai Suwanjit said.

Charnchai said fire fighters and police managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread to nearby homes. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, he added.
