Dublin's Lord Mayor should be elected directly by the public, according to the Fianna Fail TD and councillor, Mr Eoin Ryan.
"The mayoral race in London is becoming one of the most hotly contested elections in Britain for a long time. Candidates are under pressure to present their ideas and qualifications for the job to the public. Why shouldn't Dublin, as one of the most cosmopolitan and leading cities in the world, elect its own mayor?" he asked.
