Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of an elderly couple whose bodies were found in a Co Kilkenny house today.
The married couple, a farmer in his 70s and his wife, in her 60s, were found at their house near Ballyragget, about 12 miles north of Kilkenny
The bodies were found by a public health nurse when she visited the remote farm at around 3.30 p.m. She called the gardaí, who sealed off the house.
Early indications suggest the pair may have died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is unknown how long they had been dead. Their pet dog was also found dead.
The man was last seen in the area on Sunday.
The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is to carry out post mortem examinations on the bodies at Waterford Regional Hospital tomorrow morning.
