Seven men and a woman have been arrested following the discovery of more than 50kg of herbal cannabis valued at some €750,000.
The cannabis was seized by gardaí participating in an intelligence led operation in counties Dublin and Kildare.
About 30kg of the drug, valued at €360,000, was uncovered at 4.30pm today when gardaí stopped a car in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
Four men aged between 22 and 49 were arrested in connection with the seizure. They are being detained at Lucan and Leixlip Garda stations under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
A follow up search at a property in Adamstown in Dublin yielded a further 25kg of cannabis valued at €300,000.
Three men and a woman, aged between 32 and 41 years, were arrested in connection with the find and are being held at Garda stations in Clondalkin and Ballyfermot under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
