An employment guide for part-time teachers written and researched by Declan Glynn, assistant general secretary of the TUI, will be launched in Dublin tomorrow by the Minister for Education and Science, Micheal Martin. The guide sets out to inform temporary whole-time, eligible part-time and part-time teachers/lecturers of their rights and entitlements.
To date over 3,000 copies have been printed by the TUI. About one-third of TUI members, about 2,800 teachers, fall into the part-time category, according to Glynn, who has spent the past year researching and compiling information for the book. He hopes that the guide will be a useful reference manual for all part-time teachers in all second-level schools as well as lecturers at RTCs and the DIT. It may also facilitate the recruitment of teachers/lecturers into the union, he adds.
The guide will be sent to TUI members as well as a range of management bodies, education institutions and other relevant bodies.
