International law conference

The Irish Centre for Human Rights and the Geneva Academy for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights will co-host a weekend conference, Corporations and Armed Conflict: The Role of International Humanitarian Law,on Friday and Saturday in the IT Building, NUI Galway.

Symposium on archives

Archives in Crisis, a symposium to debate the future of archives in Irish society, will take place on Saturday from 3-5pm, in the Robert Emmet Lecture Theatre in Trinity College Dublin’s Arts Building. The moderator is Diarmaid Ferriter, and the speakers are Fintan O’Toole, Catriona Crowe and Eunan O’Halpin. Admission free.

A degree of innovation

A new one-year, add-on BSc (Hons) programme in Medical Device Innovation is starting next September at Dublin Institute of Technology. Applicants to this industry-focused programme should have a level-seven degree (or equivalent) in engineering or science, and/or experience. Visit the website dit.ie/medicaldevice innovation. Dyslexia conference

Dyslexia: Practical Strategiesis the title of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland's annual conference, which takes place on April 17th in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth.

The conference will feature two strands of talks, one for parents and teachers, and one for adults with dyslexia. The conference will open with an overview of current research on dyslexia. Talks for parents and teachers will then focus on practical strategies for managing dyslexia through primary, secondary and on to third-level education.

Talks for adults will focus on strategies for managing dyslexia at work, the use of technological aids, and information on ways for adults to return to education.

The fee is €30 for DAI Members, and €50 for non-members (reduced rates are available for people on social welfare). See dyslexia.ie

Media research seminar

As part of DIT’s media research seminar series, Michael Foley, of the Department of Journalism and Communications, will present a seminar, The Press and the Development of Democracy in Ireland, in Room 4-082 of DIT Aungier Street, from 1-2pm on April 15th. See dit.ie
