Portrush open day
Today between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. the Northern Ireland Hotel and Catering College in Portrush, Co Antrim, will host an open day for students who want to find out about courses, admission requirements and grants.
Test your teacher
PUPILS all over Ireland are being invited to nominate teachers to take the Ultimate Rapid Challenge on Network 2. is an action sports series for young people on Network 2 on Fridays between 6 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. Classes can suprise teachers by putting his or her name forward to take part.

Write a play?
Fancy writing a play and winning a fortune? The Young Playwright Competition 1999, organised by St Andrew's College, Dublin, and sponsored by First Active, is looking for one-act entries. Details have been posted to second-level schools. Entries must be typed - on one side of the paper only with double-line spacing. Two securely bound copies must be sent. The prize fund is £1,000. Send entries to Young Playwright Competition, St Andrew's College, Booterstown Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin. Closing date is 5 p.m. on Friday, December 18th.
Welsh destinations
For students thinking about studying in Wales next year, an open day will be held at Jury's Inn, Customs House Quay, Dublin, this Thursday organised by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. Detailed information will be available from lecturers on courses available at the university. It will run all day from 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
