Ireland tops table for English-language students

Report shows, per head of population, Ireland is ahead of UK, US, Canada and Australia

Ireland had the highest number of international English-language students in the world per head of population in 2016, according to a report by a language school representative body.

With 122,000 students that year, Ireland held fifth place globally in terms of actual numbers of students after the UK (635,000), US (169,000), Canada (154,000) and Australia (173,000).
