In a submission made to the Task Force on Dyslexia, the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland (ASTI) have called for specialised training for English teachers to deal with dyslexia among students.

The teachers' union points out that such training would enable teachers to make an initial assessment of students with dyslexia. Students could then be referred to an educational psychologist, who could advise the teacher on appropriate remedial teaching strategies.
