Exam blues

English is such a mess. Is anyone else in this situation or is it just my class? We've only covered three poets - Donne, Mahon and Boland - which we haven't really done properly. We spent 45 mins on the unseen poem and we've covered the most bizarre texts to compare, namely Cinema Paradiso, Curious Incidentand Philadelphia, which barely have relationships to compare and haven't been covered properly.

- . . . I'm not too hopeful for English either. I possibly had the worst English teacher for the past two years - she was out at least one day every week! We spent the entire of LC1 doing our single text. And somehow she managed to cover Boland's poetry in two classes which I was out for, so I'm hoping she won't come up. Oh and a lad from my class handed up an essay answer on a poetry question which he took off the internet which had been prepared by an English examiner - the teacher said it was rubbish!

Those English quotes

Just wondering how many quotes people are learning for honours English? Especially for the single text ( Othello)? I'm doing about 25 for each poet but don't know how many to do for Othello- I have about 20. I'm only studying three poets so I pretty much know their poems off by heart.

- . . . Don't you think 20 is a bit conservative? I was thinking of learning more like 100. Not that I would put that many in one answer, just to be covered for all eventualities.

- . . . I have none. I made up every single quote I used in my "pre" and got an A2. Quotes don't automatically mean marks. Using like one word, for example "honest" Iago, or else the "moor", counts as a quote.

More nerves

I didn't think I would be nervous but I'm quite anxious because since the weather was so nice I've just been out all day long doing hardly any study. I'm well covered for this week though but next week is the problem; French and Business.

- . . . Yeah I know how you feel. I only started studying at five o'clock each day. Took about three one-hour breaks and have been staying up till like three in the morning to study each night.

- . . . Ha ha, don't talk to me about nerves . . . know what worked for me? (although maybe not for boys . . .) I had a good cry and it completely relieved all the stress.

Reality check

Remember when you were young and the "Leaving Cert" was this huge important life-changing exam that smart hard-working students who studied five hours every night in their dark little rooms did??? Well where the **** did that come from?? The Leaving Cert is this annoying little fecker of an obstacle in your way when you're trying to have some fun during your last few days of school ever.
