Editor of 'The Irish Times' to step down

The Editor of The Irish Times , Mr Conor Brady, has announced his decision to step down after 16 years in the post.

The Editor of The Irish Times, Mr Conor Brady, has announced his decision to step down after 16 years in the post.

Announcing his decision to staff this afternoon, Mr Brady said following the completion of the restructuring programme, it was now time for the newspaper to move to its next phase of success and development.

Mr Brady paid tribute to

staff for their fortitude and resolution over the period of restructuring.

"This has been a trying period. But it is not the first time a great newspaper has had to hold fast to its purpose and its principles against a background of commercial or corporate difficulties. Throughout, you have ensured that The Irish Timeshas not compromised its high standards or faltered in its purpose," he said.

Mr Brady will continue to edit the paper until the process to select his successor is completed. This is expected to take about three months.
