Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said Moscow would host a grand prix race in the near future once a suitable circuit was built.
"We have eight venues seeking Formula One rights at the moment, but I believe that this is where the next event should be," Ecclestone, vice-president of the International Automobile Federation, told a news conference in Moscow today.
Ecclestone said no new races would be added to the calendar, meaning an event would have to be transferred to Moscow from elsewhere.
During his stay in Moscow, Ecclestone met Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and reached an informal agreement on construction of a suitable site for the race. Moscow authorities have plans to build a circuit on the outskirts of the city.
