The future of Finn Harps was thrown into further uncertainty last night following the resignation of player/manager Gavin Dykes.

The Donegal club currently lie second from bottom in the eircom Premier Division, having managed just three victories from 18 league games and appear shackled by debt.

Last December the Revenue Commissioners issued court proceeding against the club and revealed the Ballybofey boys were in debt to the tune of some £354,000, of which £155,000 is said to be owed to the Revenue.

An apparent result of these proceedings was that Dykes was forced to immediately release Alex Nescovic, hitherto his team’s top goalscorer. In recent weeks, he had made no secret of his exasperation at the lack of funds for strengthening his squad.

Speaking just before Christmas he warned: "I need answers to serious questions. I have never walked away from anything in my life and don’t expect to do so now. But what is a manager supposed to do when the situation drifts beyond his control?"

Finally after a yet another "crunch" meeting with the Harps board failed to bear fruit, Dykes’s patience appears to have last night ran out.

The board is unavailable for comment at this time.
