Police in the Dutch town of Almere, just north of Amsterdam, seized 200,000 ecstasy tablets and destroyed four marijuana plantations, the authorities said.

Three men aged 45, 38 and 33 were arrested in connection with the case, a press release said.

The Netherlands is considered to be the world's foremost ecstasy producing countries according to experts.

In May 2001 the Dutch government launched a plan to combat the ecstasy labs. The Hague put in place special teams to track down producers of ecstasy and stop the illegal export of the drug.
