A DUBLIN man who had £2,000 of heroin hidden in his underwear when he was stopped for dangerous driving has been jailed for 3 1/2 years. The court heard he was a keen soccer and Gaelic football player before turning to drugs.

Les Byrne (22), of Shancastle Court, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to supplying heroin on two different dates in 1998.

Garda Alan Waters said that on January 10th, 1998, Byrne's moped was stopped on the North Circular Road because he was driving erratically.

He was taken to Store Street Garda station and there pulled £2,000 of heroin from his underwear. He also had £335 on his person. Gardai later discovered he was out on bail on another charge at the time of the offence.
