A Dublin man bled to death from a head wound inflicted in a row during a drinking session in his apartment, Dublin City Coroner's Court was told yesterday. And while one man made a statement to gardai admitting the assault, no charges were brought on the instructions of the DPP.
A friend found Mr David Brady (48) dead in his bedsitter at South Circular Road on May 2nd last year. A post-mortem showed he died of blood loss following bluntforce trauma to the head. A secondary cause of death was liver disease brought on by alcohol abuse.
Det Insp Michael O'Sullivan said Mr Brady was visited by two friends early on May 1st, and a drinking session took place. A row broke out and Mr Brady was struck several times by one of the visitors. He was given a towel to stop the bleeding, and the drinking session continued. Before the others left they made Mr Brady comfortable and removed his shoes.
The jury returned an open verdict.
