Dublin Bus has said that up to 1,300 additional commuters will benefit from the new Rathfarnham Quality Bus Corridor which went into operation today.

The Rathfarnham QBC is one of five such initiatives launched by the Ministers for Enterprise, Environment and Justice recently.

The new QBC will be served by the 16a, 16b and 16c routes and also by the 15a, 15b, 15c, 17, 18 and 161. The route runs from Rathfarnham through Terenure village and on to the city centre via Harolds Cross.

The director of the Dublin Transportation Office Mr John Henry confirmed today the DTO is funding the Lucan QBC Enhancement Project to tackle delays on that route.

The Lucan corridor was opened in the 1996 but has been undermined by the rapid development taking place in the Lucan area, according to Mr Henry.

The Tallaght, Whitehall and Blanchardstown corridors are expected to open in the coming weeks.
