Double gold for Irish in Lucerne

Ireland’s rowers have won taken two gold medals at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland today.

The lightweight pair of Tony O’Connor and Gerard Towey, back at the scene of their world title success last year, came home in front of their Italian challengers by over a second.

Chile took the bronze medal while Great Britain finished in fifth position.

And their was further success for defending champion Sam Lynch in the lightweight sculls, the Shannonsider crossing the line with a 1.5 second margin of victory.
