Doherty set to perform at Oxegen

Singer-songwriter Pete Doherty will play Oxegen this summer, The Irish Timeshas learned. Former Libertines and now Babyshambles singer Doherty is due to release his debut solo album Grace/Wastelandsnext month.

Doherty appeared in front of a capacity crowd at Trinity College Dublin last Friday in a public interview conducted by Hot Pressmagazine's Stuart Clark.

He followed up that with an interview on the Late Late Showin which Doherty grew visibly irritated with Pat Kenny's line of questioning about his drug problem and Kenny admitted that he did know any of his songs.

Though he is better known for his drug habit and for his former relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, there are high hopes that Grace/Wastelandswill rehabilitate his reputation as a songwriter judging by the warm reaction to the first single from the album, The Last of the English Roses.

Last week Doherty told NMEmagazine that he had been offered between £1 million and £2 million to reform The Libertines with his musical partner Carl Barat to headline a couple of festivals in the UK.

However, Barat told BBC 6 Music radio this week that the last thing he wanted to do was "burden my mind" with a reunion.

It is likely that Doherty will play Oxegen as either a solo artist or with his band Babyshambles.

Already confirmed for the festival, which takes place between July 10th and 12th at Punchestown racecourse in Co Kildare, are headliners Blur, Kings of Leon and Snow Patrol, along with Bloc Party, Katy Perry and The Script.
