A Derry youth who was injured in a botched raid in Co Donegal at the weekend has escaped from Letterkenny General Hospital where he was being held under Garda supervision.

The 17-year-old was being treated for cuts and bruises which he sustained during a robbery at a filling station close to the Border at Burt early on Easter Monday.

The escape happened at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday shortly after the man received a number of visitors. A garda who gave chase was tripped, and the youth and his accomplices escaped in a stolen car which was later recovered.

During the attempted raid, some youths were confronted by the owner of the filling station and a shot was fired in the air.
