Almost 200 residents of Delgany, Co Wicklow, demonstrated in the village on Saturday. They were protesting at the granting by Wicklow County Council of planning permission for 263 houses between Delgany village and Killincarrig.
Mr Patrick Pender, co-chairman of the Delgany Area Residents Action group, said the number of people who turned out in sheeting rain showed the depth of anger among local residents.
He told the rally that permission, for what he called AVMARK Two, was dramatically similar to AVMARK One, which was turned down by An Bord Pleanala less than a year earlier.
"It is hardly credible that within a year a bad plan with the same problems of access and infrastructure could be approved."
Mr Pender said the association had also initiated proceedings to seek a judicial review of Wicklow County Council's decision. "It appears that a judicial review is warranted in this case as Wicklow County Council has approved a virtual replica of the plan which Bord Pleanala had rejected."
The rally was also addressed by a Labour councillor, Mr Tommy Cullen, who offered his experience in the Glen Ding case to the residents.
