Gardaí are investigating the possibility that carbon monoxide poisoning may have caused the death of a Limerick man earlier this week.

The body of James Duggan (44) was discovered by a caller to his house on Caragh Avenue, Caherdavin, Limerick, early last Monday morning.

Gardaí who attended the scene were alerted to the possibility of a gas leak and contacted An Bord Gáis, which carried out safety checks on appliances at the house. There had been fears among residents on Monday that there may have been a larger fault in the gas line following news of Mr Duggan's death.

However, An Bord Gáis confirmed that it was treating the case as an isolated incident, and reassured residents that they were not in danger.
