Former All Black fullback and coach of the Canterbury Crusaders Super 12 franchise Robbie Deans was today named All Black coaching co-ordinator by coach John Mitchell.
Deans (42) will have responsibility for coaching the All Black backline and organising the work of several specialists co-opted to help in different areas of the side.
Mitchell, who has just returned from a scouting mission in Australia, said he was delighted to have Deans aboard.
"He has enjoyed plenty of success coaching both Canterbury and the Crusaders and before that he was an outstanding All Blacks fullback. I have no doubt he will make a considerable contribution to the success of the All Blacks over the next two years," Mitchell said.
Deans is keeping his job as coach of the Canterbury Crusaders.
"I'm happy to have the opportunity to work with Mitch. Being part of the All Blacks environment is the ultimate for anyone involved in New Zealand rugby and I'm looking forward to getting down to work straight away," Deans said.
