The Special Criminal Court has fixed February 2nd next as the date for the trial of a Co Monaghan man who spent 15 years on the run in the United States.

Mr Thomas Moyna (42), a father of four, of Scotstown, returned to Ireland last September and was arrested on firearms charges.

He was arrested on a warrant issued by the court in July 1983 after he failed to appear for a remand hearing.

Mr Moyna is charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life at Castlesaunderson Demesne, Redhills, Co Cavan, on April 1st, 1983, having them under his control, and falsely imprisoning Mr Peter Maguire and hijacking his car at Redhills on the same date. He was remanded on continuing bail of £30,000 until February 2nd next year.
