Danish police said tonight they had detained about 150 people in clashes with some 1,800 anti-Israel protesters at a friendly soccer match between Denmark and Israel.

Witnesses said demonstrators tried to break through police lines to enter Parken national stadium to protest against a military offensive in Palestinian towns, cities and camps in the West Bank, which Israel began on March 29th.

The protesters also burned US flags and a portrait of Israeli Prime Minister Mr Ariel Sharon ahead of the match.

We have taken around 150 people into custody, police spokesman Mr Flemming Munch said on local television. He said later that the demonstrations had gone quiet.
