Nicosia - Cyprus appeared to be holding its ground yesterday over its detention of two Israelis suspected of spying as the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, vowed to bring the two detainees home. "Every Israeli citizen is important to us. We will look into this and will certainly bring them home," Mr Netanyahu said yesterday.

In Cyprus, the Justice Minister, Mr Nicos Koshis, said police would see the issue through, and take the suspects to trial if the evidence was hard enough. The Saturday morning arrest of the two men in a sensitive military region and with what police said was sophisticated listening equipment sparked a flurry of diplomatic activity. The suspects, identified as Mr Udi Hargov (37) and Mr Igal Damary (49), were arrested and remanded in custody for eight days pending inquiries.
