Tokyo - A leading member of Japan's Aum Shinri Kyo doomsday cult, accused of a fatal 1995 gas attack on the Tokyo metro, was sentenced yesterday to life in prison for 10 related crimes, including murder. Judge Hiromichi Inoue in Tokyo District Court rejected a prosecution demand that Yoshihiro Inoue be sentenced to death.

Inoue (30) was the cult's principal intelligence officer and a close aide to its founder, Shoko Asahara, who is on trial for numerous crimes related to the gas attack.
